Turning Point USA Embraces SNL Sketch as Sign of Cultural Reach

Turning Point USA says a Saturday Night Live sketch that mocked a campus recruiter for the conservative group is a sign it has entered mainstream pop culture, as the episode drew millions of views and continued the show's pattern of targeting conservatives.

Turning Point USA is treating a jab from Saturday Night Live as a compliment, saying a sketch that mocked one of its campus recruiters shows the conservative organization has become a fixture in mainstream popular culture.

The sketch, which aired during Saturday's episode, included a character whose hairstyle was compared to that of a campus recruiter for Turning Point USA. The moment was one of several jokes aimed at conservatives during the broadcast, which also featured a sketch about firearms marketed to women, multiple jokes about Trump Cabinet members during the Weekend Update segment, and a cold open built entirely around Republican leaders.

Andrew Kolvet, a spokesperson for Turning Point USA, told Fox News Digital that the organization took the reference in stride. «We saw the skit. We thought it was actually pretty funny and a testament to how the organization has permeated popular culture,» Kolvet said, adding, «And, for the record, we thought his hair looked great.»

The sketch centered on men seeking what it called a «scary mean girlfriend,» played by guest host Dakota Johnson, who insults and degrades them while speaking her mind. A narrator introduced the premise by asking whether a nice, supportive girlfriend will not give a straight answer and leaves a man wondering how she really feels. The Turning Point USA comparison was one of several barbs in the routine, which also included a line telling one actor in a patterned shirt that he looked like a pedophile on vacation.

The clip gained traction online, accumulating more than 2.1 million views on YouTube and 1.1 million views on X, according to the report. The episode's political content extended beyond the sketch. The cold open was set in the offices of the Republican National Committee, where officials were depicted preparing to record ads ahead of the November midterm elections and describing their prospects as bleak. The segment included an impersonation of Secretary of State Marco Rubio, played by cast member Marcello Hernández, offering a message to Latino voters, and a portrayal of Sen. Mitch McConnell appearing confused and unable to speak. McConnell recently returned to the Senate last month after a lengthy hospital stay following a fall at his home and a battle with pneumonia.

Colin Jost also portrayed Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, with the character making a religious quip about putting God back in war and saying soldiers are praying more than they used to. The cold open further featured characterizations of Vice President JD Vance and President Donald Trump, whom the show has frequently depicted since Trump's return to the White House.

The episode's tone reflects a broader pattern noted by media analysts. An analysis by the Media Research Center's NewsBusters, provided exclusively to the New York Post, found that 91 percent of Weekend Update jokes targeted conservatives last season. Trump was the show's most frequent target, accounting for more than 100 punchlines.

For Turning Point USA, the mention arrives as the group continues to expand its national footprint and campus presence. By laughing off the sketch, the organization signaled that it views the late-night reference not as a slight but as evidence that its brand has crossed into the broader cultural conversation. The episode's online performance suggests the joke reached a wide audience, amplifying the group's name well beyond its usual political circles.
