Mitchell Sets WNBA Single-Season Scoring Record as Clark Returns in Fever Win

Kelsey Mitchell became the WNBA's single-season scoring leader on Friday night, pouring in 33 points to lead the Indiana Fever to a 103-85 victory over the Toronto Tempo. Mitchell now has 1,034 points this season, surpassing the previous record of 1,021 set by A'ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces in 2024.
The milestone came in Mitchell's 25th consecutive game with at least 20 points, extending her own WNBA record. She shot 12 of 17 from the field and connected on 7 of 11 attempts from 3-point range, powering an Indiana offense that has now won eight of its last 10 games.
Caitlin Clark returned to the lineup after helping the United States win the women's FIBA World Cup in Germany, finishing with 28 points and matching her season high with 14 assists. It was Clark's 14th double-double of the season. She struggled from beyond the arc, making just 2 of 8 attempts, but was perfect from the free-throw line, hitting all 12 of her shots.
The game was the first for both teams following a nearly three-week break for the World Cup. Indiana improved its position in the Eastern Conference standings, moving into a tie with the Atlanta Dream for first place. The Fever have already clinched a playoff spot.
Toronto, meanwhile, continued a difficult slide. The Tempo lost their fifth straight game and have now dropped 21 of their last 23 contests after starting their inaugural season 9-9. They have been eliminated from postseason contention.
Laura Juskaite led Toronto with 22 points, while Kiki Rice added 18. Isabelle Harrison and Temi Fagbenle each scored 16 points in the loss. The Tempo were without veteran guard Marina Mabrey, who the team announced Wednesday will miss the final four games of the season because of a right adductor injury. Mabrey has not played since a home loss to Indiana on Aug. 18.
Mitchell's record-breaking performance adds another chapter to a standout season for the Fever guard, who has been one of the league's most consistent scorers. Her 33-point outing came on a night when Indiana's offense clicked on all cylinders, with Clark orchestrating the attack and Mitchell finishing plays.
The Fever return home to host the Washington Mystics on Sunday, while the Tempo will face the New York Liberty in their next game. With the playoffs approaching, Indiana will look to maintain its momentum as it jockeys for the top seed in the East.
