Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott Rings Nasdaq Closing Bell as Network Marks 30 Years

Suzanne Scott, CEO of Fox News Media, rang the Nasdaq Closing Bell in New York City as the network celebrated the 30th anniversary of Fox News Channel, which launched on October 7, 1996.

Suzanne Scott, chief executive of Fox News Media, rang the Nasdaq Closing Bell at the Nasdaq MarketSite in New York City as the company marked the 30th anniversary of Fox News Channel. The network first went on air on October 7, 1996, and the ceremony brought together several employees who helped launch it.

Among those in attendance were original on-air hosts Lauren Green, Trace Gallagher, Steve Doocy and Brit Hume, along with Fox News Media President and Executive Editor Jay Wallace and other staff members who have been with the network for three decades and now hold executive roles.

In remarks before ringing the bell, Scott described the occasion as a significant milestone. She said it was a tremendous honor to be at Nasdaq to celebrate 30 years of Fox News. She credited Fox Corporation Chairman Emeritus Rupert Murdoch with launching the network three decades ago around the idea of giving audiences another voice in the national conversation and building a news organization that provided balance to all Americans.

Scott said that vision had grown from a single linear network into a multi-platform operation spanning digital, streaming, audio and books, and she pointed to the leadership of Fox Corp Executive Chair and Chief Executive Officer Lachlan Murdoch in that expansion. She noted that Fox News Media platforms reach more than 200 million people on a monthly basis, describing an enduring connection with the audience.

Scott also framed the anniversary as a recognition of the people behind the network’s success, including journalists, producers, technicians, correspondents, executives and other colleagues. She said they show up every day with skill, energy, determination and a commitment to their craft, and she thanked viewers who have welcomed Fox News Channel into their homes, workplaces and daily lives.

Looking ahead, Scott said the next chapter of media is being shaped by new technology, new platforms and new ways of connecting with audiences. She joined Fox News in its inaugural year of 1996 and held several production and creative positions before becoming CEO in 2018. Under her leadership, the network has dominated cable ratings and regularly beaten broadcast networks, according to the company.

Scott was recently inducted into the Broadcasting+Cable Hall of Fame. During her tenure, she launched Fox News Books in 2020 and led brand refreshes of Fox News Digital, Fox News Audio and Fox Business. She also created three streaming offerings: the subscription-based Fox Nation in 2018, Fox News International in 2020 and Fox Weather in 2021.

After her remarks, Scott was surrounded by longtime colleagues as she officially halted transactions for the day, with red, white and blue Fox News-themed confetti falling over the ceremony. The Closing Bell, which ends market trading, has been rung by influential figures including Jeff Bezos, Oprah Winfrey and Michael Jordan.

Nasdaq Executive Vice President Jeff Thomas presented Scott with a Closing Bell crystal before the ceremony and called Fox News Media one of the most recognized and influential media brands in the world. The event underscored the network’s three-decade presence in American media and its expansion beyond its original cable channel.
